Best Combo

BJJ + Strength

For most visitors, the best routine is simple: train jiu-jitsu, add one or two lifting sessions, and prioritize hydration, sleep, and recovery.

Recovery

Yoga & Recovery

The heat, sun, walking, training, and late dinners add up fast. Recovery is part of the routine here, not an afterthought.

Beach Yoga Yoga With Jamie Beach yoga is one of the easiest recovery wins in Tamarindo. Jamie offers approachable classes for visitors who want to stretch, reset, and enjoy the beach before the day gets hot. Great between hard training days, and helpful for hips, back, shoulders, and travel stiffness.
Hero Tip Recovery Matters Here A beach yoga session, massage, light swim, or early night can make the rest of your trip much better. Private options may be useful for groups or retreat guests who want a dedicated recovery day.

Something Different

Rock Climbing in Tamarindo

If you want a fun off-the-mat workout, TamaRocks is a great option for climbing, fitness, and a different kind of movement.

Bouldering TamaRocks TamaRocks is a climbing and fitness facility in Tamarindo with bouldering and training options for beginners and experienced climbers. A good rainy day activity, great for grip, core, and coordination, and fun for athletes, families, and groups.
Why It Fits Good Movement Without Another Fight Climbing gives you a challenging workout without adding more sparring rounds. It pairs well with jiu-jitsu because it hits grip, pulling, body tension, and problem-solving.

Train Smart

Tamarindo Training Tips

Training in Costa Rica is different than training at home. The heat and humidity are real, especially if you're doing multiple sessions.

Hydrate EarlyStart drinking water and electrolytes before training. Waiting until you feel cooked is too late.
Pack Extra GearBring extra rashguards, shorts, and training clothes. Nothing dries as fast as you expect in humidity.
Use LaundryPlan on washing training gear often. Don't let wet gear sit in your bag overnight.
Respect RecoveryBeach walks, yoga, massage, naps, and lighter rounds help you enjoy the whole week.
