Transportation in Tamarindo
Airport shuttles, golf carts, rental cars, ATVs, side by sides, motorcycles, and the easiest ways to get around during your trip.
This is not a sponsored transportation guide or paid directory. These are the shuttle, cart, vehicle, and rental options we actually recommend to Hero guests after more than a decade in Tamarindo.

Your easiest arrival plan
Choose the right transportation based on where you are staying and how much exploring you want to do.
Liberia Airport to Tamarindo
Liberia Airport is just over one hour from Tamarindo. Book your shuttle in advance — paying direct at the airport can be very expensive.
- Shared shuttle: $35 per person. Usually efficient, but can be delayed waiting for other passengers.
- Private shuttle: up to 5 people for $95. Best for a smoother arrival or small groups.
Golf carts
Golf carts are one of the easiest ways to move around Tamarindo. The key is choosing the correct cart for where you are staying.
- Wyndham guests: choose a gas cart or a premium hill-capable electric cart.
- Town guests: standard electric carts are a good affordable option.
- Do not assume every electric cart can make the Wyndham hill.
Gas Golf Cart
Best for Wyndham guests because it can handle the hill and gives you more range.
Reserve Gas CartPremium Electric Cart
Use this option only if you are getting the premium hill-capable electric cart.
Reserve Premium CartStandard Electric Cart
Good affordable option if you are staying in town. Not ideal for Wyndham hill access.

ATVs, side by sides & motorcycles
If you want more range than a golf cart, these are good options for exploring around Tamarindo and nearby areas.

Quad / ATV
A fun option for getting around and exploring beyond the immediate center of town.
Reserve ATV
Side by Side UTV
Good for couples or small groups who want comfort, freedom, and a little more adventure.

Rental cars
A rental car is not necessary for most retreat guests, but it can be useful if you are extending your trip or exploring outside Tamarindo.
Alamo
Alamo is the recommended rental partner for guests who want a full vehicle during their stay.
Rent a car if...
- You are arriving early or staying after the retreat.
- You want to visit beaches outside Tamarindo.
- You prefer full independence from shuttles, taxis, and Uber.
- You are traveling with family, surfboards, or extra luggage.
Local Tip
Tamarindo is easy once you arrive.
Town is compact, Uber works well, taxis are available, and many restaurants, shops, beach spots, and services are close together. If you are staying at the Wyndham, the hill is the main transportation detail — choose a gas cart or premium hill-capable electric cart.
